Barbara Jean Curtis, 65, of Fountain City, passed away on Sunday, December 29, at Reid Hospital.
She was born on October 7, 1948 in Mason City, Iowa to Warren S. and Shirley J. VerHelst Thompson. She was an honors graduate Cum Laude of Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth with a Bachelorâs Degree in International Business.
Barbara worked in the circulation department at Morrison-Reeves Library. She was a member of the Fountain City Wesleyan Church and was a tireless volunteer for many organizations including Area 9, Meals on Wheels; Fountain City Wesleyan Church Food Bank; Circle U Help Center and adult reading programs in Richmond.
Barbara will be missed by her husband of 44 years, Ric, whom she married on June 12, 1969; daughter, Kelly Curtis, son, Tim Curtis; granddaughters, Casey Meister and Chandler Curtis; grandson, Nathan Hill; sisters, Sandra (Bill) Baber; Debora Lawrence; Linda (Mory) Riley; Wanda (Kevin) Mayfield; brother, John (Krystal) Thompson; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Patricia Thompson.
Public visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.
