Anita Bernadine âBernieâ Hopkins, 90, of Kokomo, formerly of the Whitewater community, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, April 19.
She was born in Humbolt, Illinois on May 20, 1925 to Merle and Blanche Pennell Bolin and was a 1943 graduate of Humbolt High School.
She married Russell M. Hopkins on June 25, 1954. They were blessed with two children. She retired from Alcoa in 1983, where she was a secretary, and was a member of the Whitewater Christian Church. She and Russell enjoyed camping and fishing and spent many wonderful vacations at Lake Monroe with family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and a year never went by without tomatoes somewhere in her yard. They also enjoyed bowling together on several senior bowling leagues. The highlight of her bowling career came when she was crowned the Indiana State Senior Champion in her age division. She was also an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself and the grandchildren.
Mrs. Hopkins will be missed by her husband, Russell M. Hopkins; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa & Paul Million; son & daughter-in-law, Russell B. & Lisa Hopkins; five grandchildren, and one sister, Naomi Connor.
Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mildred Sweeney and Loraine Newman; and brothers, Donald Bolin, Horace Bolin and Morris Bolin.
Funeral arrangements will be announced when they are complete.
