Mrs. Bertha May “Mammy” Blankenship, 82, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, at her home with her family at her side.
   She was born on April 28, 1934, in Olive Hill Kentucky on Mill’s Branch, to Ross and Ivory Nickles Cox. She married Ralph Blankenship on September 1, 1951. They were blessed with two children and shared 55 years together until his death in October 2006.
   Bertha was a longtime member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She taught Vacation Bible School, served as class and church secretary and helped their food service mission for 30 years. She was a leader of WMU for 18 years. She was also active with the Circle U Help Center in their early years. She enjoyed her trip to Mexico and liked flowers and listening to her audio books.
   Bertha will be missed by her daughter & son-in-law, Bill & Debbie Bailey; grandchildren, Amy Bailey Quante (Trevor), Jennie Bailey Brant (Jerry), Erin Bailey Campbell (Alan); great-grandchildren, Alex Smith, Delanie Russell, Kallie Mae Russell, Wade Quante and Natalee Quante; brother, Bill Cox (Marilyn); sister-in-law and best friend, Susie Cox and many special nieces & nephews.
   Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Ross “Eddie” Blankenship, in November 2008; great-granddaughter, Bailey Elisabeth, in May 2010; sister, Mary Belle and brothers Ernst, Joe, James and Bob.
   Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. A funeral ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment in Chester Cemetery.
