Charles D. “Charlie” Medaris, 86, of Whitewater, went home peacefully to be with the Lord and reunite with his wife, Edna, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at The Springs of Richmond.
Charlie was born on April 29, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married the former Edna Faye Newby on December 8, 1956. They shared almost 68 years side by side before her passing on November 27, 2024.
Charlie was a faithful member of the Whitewater Christian Church. He enjoyed a long career as a machinist and millwright, working for Richmond Gear, Ford and later Visteon before his retirement. He could engineer just about anything and was skilled in metalworking, woodworking and cabinetry. Charlie loved life and he loved people. He helped mold young boys into men as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 107, and was recognized as Scoutmaster of the year in 1966. He enjoyed working in his workshop, building and fixing things for people just for the fun of doing it. He enjoyed going fishing and hunting, traveling to the Canadian wilderness many times. Charlie also enjoyed sports and still kept up with the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. In healthier, younger days, he was an avid cyclist.
Charlie will be missed by his son, Daryl Medaris & wife, Amy, dear friend, Chris McAdams, who was like a son; grandchildren, Jodi (Jim) Hansen, Jonathan (Nichole) Medaris, Hannah (Eric) Hussey, Luke (Samantha) Medaris and Jordan (Rachel) Wesler; 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Charlotte Ferguson & husband, Johnnie, Cynthia Robison; brothers, Dick Smith & wife, Judy, and Dennis Smith; and numerous nieces & nephews that he dearly loved.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; parents, Dorothy P. Richards Smith and Walter A. Smith; aunt, Lucia Drucker, who raised him.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor Gordon Mehaffey at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, February 13 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Whitewater Cemetery.
Family & friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. - Noon on Thursday, February 13, at the Funeral Home.
