Charlotte E. Merritt, 83, of Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, December 6, 2014.
She was born on October 22, 1931 in Anderson, Indiana to James Caylor and Cynthia Kaiser Fields.
Charlotte was a homemaker and also worked outside the home, first at Perfect Circle, where she was an inspector for 10 years. She later worked at the front desk at the former Kings Department Store for 8 years and at Gemstone Jewelry for another 10 years. She loved her horses, dogs, going shopping and traveling. When health permitted, she attended the Fountain City Wesleyan Church. She was formerly a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years.
Charlotte will be missed by her special cousin and caregiver, Melanie Mullins, whom Charlotte and her former husband, Francis Smith, raised, and Melanieâs husband, Bob; daughter, Debra Parks; grandchildren, James âDustyâ Jennings and Shana Jennings; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Fields; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Francis Smith; second husband, James W. Merritt; son-in-law, Stan Parks; brother, John Fields and step-sister, Lova Jean Stevens.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. â 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, at the funeral home.
