Dan Ramey, 71, of Webster, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 24 at Reid Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1941 in Dunlapsville, Indiana to Homer Druley and Nellie Rosetta Townsend Ramey. Dan attended John W. Short High School in Liberty and served in the US Army from 1961-64.
Dan was a machinist at Perfect Circle and retired in 1990 after 30 years of service. He owned and operated Ramey Excavating until retiring again in 2006.
Dan was always willing to serve his neighbors and community. He was a Charter Member of the Webster Volunteer Fire Dept., where he served proudly as a fireman and Chief for many years. He had volunteered his talents with Carpenters for Christ since 1995. Dan was a cancer survivor who donated his time and walked for many years in the Wayne County Relay for Life.
Dan was a man of faith and was a member of Christ United Church in Richmond, serving as a Deacon. He was a member of the Richmond Conservation Club, where he served on the Board of Trustees and shared his love of being an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed time spent in the saddle of the many motorcycles he owned over the years. He knew everything about everything and was always willing to share this knowledge with others.
Dan will be missed by his wife, Claudia, who he married on April 1, 2006; his daughters & sons-in-law, Michelle & Ron Drysdale, of Columbus; Melissa & David Samuels, of Centerville; son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Staci Ramey, of Webster; son & daughter-in-law, Wade & Amber Hill, of Boston; 7 granddaughters, Jessica (Travis) Wakefield, Danielle (Michael) Schultz, Grace Drysdale, Rachel Drysdale, Sydney Ramey and Hannah Samuels, Katie Grimwood; grandson, Trey Corneilson; 3 great-granddaughters, Sierra Drysdale, Natalie Schultz and Layla Schultz; brothers & sisters-in-law, Dave & Joan Ramey and Mark & Kathy Ramey, all of Liberty; and many nieces, nephews and cousins..
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Betty Ramey, in 1999; 2 sisters, Joan Johnson and Janet Scherer; 1 brother, Carl Ramey
Pastor Brett Karanovich will conduct a funeral ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, at the Christ United Church, 3430 Backmeyer Road in Richmond. Interment with military rites will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
Family & friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, at the church.
