Mrs. Dorothy E. Brown, 83, of North Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Richmond, passed away on May 28, 2013. She will now reside in the house of the Lord where she will no longer feel pain.
Dorothy was born on July 1, 1929 to Allen and Ruth Lazear Dalrymple. She grew up in Edison, Ohio. Dorothy was a graduate of Edison High School and Wooster Business School in Wooster, Ohio.
Dorothy married Elton L. Brown on February 4, 1948. They moved to Richmond in 1962. She retired from Harvest Land Co-Op in 1985. She was a member of the St. Paulâs Lutheran Church and the Richmond Womenâs Club. In 1997, Dorothy and Elton moved to North Fort Myers, Florida. She became âhooked onâ shuffleboard and served as the secretary of the Lee County Shuffleboard Club for 10 years. Dorothy played in many tournaments and loved her shuffleboard family. She entered the Southern District of the Florida State Shuffleboard Association Hall of Fame in 2013 and will be remembered by many.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Elton; their two sons, William A. Brown and his wife, Mary, of Fountain City, and Michael E. Brown, of Indianapolis. She had five grandchildren, Jen Detweiler and her husband, Mark, of Liberty; Bryan Brown and his wife, Laura, of Versailles, KY; and Kevin, Katherine and Theresa Brown, all of Indianapolis. She had four great-grandchildren; Isaac Brown Schmitt, serving in the US Navy; and Maci, Whitney and Carter Detweiler, all of Liberty. Dorothy leaves a special friend, her dog, Roxie.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Jonathon V. Brown, who was killed during his tour of duty in the US Air Force.
Pastor Bob Meckley will conduct a funeral ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, at the funeral home.
