Gary S. Busby, 77, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, May 15 at Reid Health.
Born August 12, 1940 in Richmond, he was the son of Otis L. Sr. and Evelyn O. Blankenship Busby, both of whom preceded him in death.
Gary was a 1958 graduate of Fountain City High School. He earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Western New Mexico University in preparation for a career as a Physical Education teacher. He taught for a year and was an assistant coach in Alamogordo, New Mexico, one year in Milton, Indiana; two years at Dennis Jr. High in Richmond before serving the rest of his 32-year career at Richmond High School, where he was an assistant basketball coach under the late Coach Dick Baumgartner from 1969-78. Gary always enjoyed playing golf, fishing and basketball.
Gary will be missed by his former wife and longtime friend, Debbie Busby; daughter, Kendra Busby; sons, Tanner Busby and his wife, Zondra; Jordan Busby and his wife, Lisa; and Matt Busby; seven grandchildren, Briya Busby, Hayden Busby, Regan Busby, Kayla Busby, Trenton Busby, Mathias Busby and Jasmine Busby; sister, Nan Busby; brothers, Otis âBuddyâ Busby and his wife, Barbara; Douglas Busby and his wife, Joyce; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Busby.
Garyâs life will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, in the Tiernan Center Gymnasium of Richmond High School, 380 Hub Etchison Parkway in Richmond. Doors will be open after 1:00 p.m. and family and friends may visit after the celebration until 4:00 p.m.
