Jan Vogelsong, Sr.

 Mr. Jan A. Vogelsong, Sr., 90, of Richmond, passed away in Largo, Florida on October 14, 2024.

 Jan was born on September 19, 1934 in Richmond to Wilber Ogborn & Iris Igelman Vogelsong. He was a 1954 graduate of Richmond High School and was a US Army veteran. Jan married the former Sue Newman on August 19, 1956. They were blessed with three children and 60 years together until her death on November 7, 2016.

 Jan was a career firefighter with the Richmond Fire Department, retiring in 1982. He was proud of the house he built with his own hands just north of Richmond. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Later in life, Jan was involved with the Willow Grove Cemetery Association Board, the Wayne County Genealogical Society and volunteered with Widowed Persons Service in Richmond. He was a faithful member of the Bethel Christian Church. 

 Jan will be missed by his daughter, Vicki Sue Chapman & husband, Gerry; sons, Jan Vogelsong, Jr. & wife, Tammy; Brent Vogelsong & companion, Lori Laswell; grandchildren, Christen Chamberlain-Malice & husband, Ryan Jesse, Ryan Vogelsong & wife, Brooke, Tyler Vogelsong & wife, Megan, Alyssa Lahr and Bronson Vogelsong; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

 Jan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue; companion, Shirley Pyle; and brothers Jack Vogelsong and Jay Vogelsong.

 A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor Tim Branson at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery, where the Wayne County Honor Guard will deliver military rites.

 Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, October 28, at the funeral home.
