Jay N. Valant, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, at his residence.
He was born on June 6, 1934, in Newark, New Jersey to Joseph and Irene Jenny Valant. Jay grew up in New Jersey with his brothers Laurence and Edwin. He was a 1956 graduate of Lehigh University, and an officer of the US Army. His professional career began at Chrysler in Detroit, MI where he met his bride Rosie. They later came to Richmond through employment with Avco Corp. Jay was a small business owner as well as Controller for Bertsch and Company in Cambridge City and CEO at Lakeland Foods, Lake Odessa , MI. His faith in Jesus Christ included membership with Central United Methodist Church in Richmond as well as the local Menâs Bible Study Fellowship. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing as a member of Elks Country Club and later at Highland Lake Golf Course. His volunteer work included committee member to the Richmond Parks and Recreation Dept., reporting to the mayor, as well as youth baseball and basketball coaching
Jay will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Rosemary âRosieâ Neal Valant, whom he married on November 8, 1958; two sons, Laurence âLarryâ N. Valant and Anthony âTonyâ J. Valant and his wife, Erin; three grandchildren, Eric L. Valant and his wife, Natalie; Paula M. Valant, husband Tobias and Sophia I. Valant; great-grandchildren, Benjamin A. Valant and Macey G. Valant; and Jayâs brothers, Laurence B. and Edwin âTedâ Valant.
Interment will take place in Webster Cemetery. A memorial service is yet undetermined.
