Jeanne A. Showalter, 80, of Fountain City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2014.
She was born May 16, 1933 in Muncie to George and Lilly Root Fox. She was a 1951 graduate of Burris High School and earned Bachelorâs and Masterâs Degrees from Ball State University. She married Carl Max Showalter on August 17, 1956.
Jeanne enjoyed a 20-plus-year career as a Kindergarten teacher in Richmond, Delta and Muncie Schools. She was a member of the National Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and crafting.
Jeanne will be missed by her husband, Carl Max Showalter; daughters, Sally Showalter and Debra Duermit & her husband, Dennis; two grandchildren, Kathryn Duermit and Christopher Duermit; one great-grandson, Westley Duermit; her sister-in-law and best friend, Donna Showalter; and nieces & nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Stacey Marie Showalter, in 1997; and two brothers, George Fox, Jr. and James Fox.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, January 10, at the funeral home.
