Mrs. Joan Powell, 82, of Whitewater, passed away at Arbor Trace on Friday, October 17.
She was born on May 5, 1932 in Gas City, Indiana to Oliver and Ruby Smoot Heath. She was a graduate of Marion High School and was a homemaker. She was formerly employed by Coxâs Supermarket and enjoyed reading, especially Stephen King novels.
Mrs. Powell will be missed by her sons, Everett Powell and George Powell; grandchildren, Chuck Powell, Jerry Powell, Lori McDermitt, Mike McDermitt, Jeff Mills and Dean Mills; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vickie Brockman, Linda Lightner, Mildred Riffle and Lois Fultz; and several nieces & nephews.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry Powell, in 1987; daughter, Shirley Burelison, in 2006; and one sister, Janet Sutherland.
Pastor Troy Beckner will conduct a funeral ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, at the funeral home.
