Mrs. Joan Rodgers, 78, of Fountain City, passed away Thursday, March 20, at Fox Run at Summerville in Fairborn, Ohio.
She was born June 27, 1929 in Richmond, to James and Lula Robinson McFarland. She was a 1947 graduate of Hagerstown High School and attended school to become a Dental Hygienist, which she worked as from 1949-1964. She was united in marriage to Lyell "Beanie" Rodgers on December 24, 1950. This union was blessed with 2 sons and spanned 50 years until Beanie's death on August 27, 2001. Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the Rodalla Homemakers Club. She enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers when her health permitted. Her favorite times were spent as a grandmother and going shopping.
Mrs. Rodgers will be missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Sherry Rodgers, of San Antonio, Texas; Dana and Jennifer Rodgers, of Fairborn, Ohio; 1 granddaughter, Cortney Rodgers; 1 grandson, Ty Rodgers; 1 sister, Jean Bader, of Richmond, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Rodgers was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Earlham Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, March 24, at the funeral home.
