John E. Bockhofer

John E. Bockhofer, 84, passed away on Saturday, January 8 at Reid Health.

He was born November 12, 1937 in Wayne County to Howard & Grace Schroeder Bockhofer. He graduated from Fountain City High School in 1956 and married the former C. Sue Brown on September 7, 1958. They were blessed with 5 children and 50 years of marriage before her death on November 27, 2008. John was a farmer in the Fountain City area before moving to Richmond in 1996. He also formerly worked in maintenance at Friends Fellowship Community. He enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Bockhofer will be missed by his daughters, Beth Sumrall, Lunetta Akkerman and Amy Bockhofer; sons, David Bockhofer and John H. Bockhofer; 5 grandchildren, John Weatherly, Kristen Pipenger, Jessica Sawyer, Jacob Ryan Bockhofer and Matthew Bockhofer; 9 great-grandchildren, Wyatt Sawyer, Westin Sawyer, Elizabeth Weatherly, Violet Weatherly, Colin Pipenger, Montana Bockhofer, Jax Bockhofer, Waylon Bockhofer, Briar Bockhofer; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bockhofer was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Bonna Mae Webb.
Visitation for Mr. Bockhofer will be from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.
A graveside ceremony will immediately follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
