John E. Wallace, 83, passed away on Monday, January 3 at Reid Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1927 in Richmond, Indiana to John William and Elsie Lenora Baker Wallace and was a graduate of Richmond High School. He married the former Rebecca Gordon on May 14, 1960. They lived in the Richmond and Fountain City communities for the past 53 years before her death on November 12, 2010. Mr. Wallace was employed 45 years with the Palladium-Item as a typesetter and maintenance worker. After retirement, he worked at the former Cox Supermarket in Richmond. He was an avid reader and enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles. When better health permitted, he enjoyed playing golf.
Mr. Wallace will be missed by his daughters, Darlene Boomershine and her husband, Phil, of Richmond, Cheryl Powell, of Fountain City; 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, a sister, Barbara Jean Shaw, of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and 2 daughters, Marlene Voiles and Katherine Harrison.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor David E. Leffel at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, at the funeral home.
