Joseph Kent "Joe" Hartman, of Fort Pierce, Florida, formerly of Fountain City, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2015, at the age of 76.
He was born on May 13, 1939, in Richmond, Indiana, to Leonard and Alma Hartman. He graduated from Union High School in Modoc, Indiana. Joe served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Elaine Turley, on December 6, 1959. Joe was employed in the auto industry in Indiana, where he and Elaine raised their three children, Jeff, Mark and David. He returned to school and earned a degree in Culinary Management in 1992.
Joe and Elaine moved to Florida in 1997, where Joe worked as a Security Guard for Ocean Village until his retirement. He enjoyed time spent outdoors and was an avid gardener and fisherman.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Hartman and Alma Hartman, and his son, Mark Hartman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Hartman, sons Jeff Hartman (Becky) and David Hartman, four grandchildren, Natalie Carter (Nick), Austin Hartman, Tyler Hartman and Ashley Hartman, one great-grandchild, Ezra Carter, sisters Janet Denman (Bob) and Betty Cook (Harold), and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation is planned for Tuesday, November 3, from 4-7 p.m. at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.
