Katherine May âKittyâ Sheets, 81, of Fountain City, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 15.
She was born on March 21, 1936 in Richmond, Indiana to Charles H. and Grace Lillian Wilson Vance, both of whom preceded her in death. Kitty married John âBudâ Sheets on March 24, 1955. They were blessed with three children and 52 years of marriage before his death on July 21, 2007.
Kitty had lived in the Fountain City since 1960. She served as the New Garden Township Trustee for eight years and also worked at Jim Fisherâs Fine Foods for 17 years. She was a faithful member of the Fountain City United Methodist Church, where she played the organ for 47 years and was in charge of Good Friday services for 15 years. She also was organist for 20 years at the Webster United Methodist Church. She formed and directed the Northeastern Community Choir and was a member of the Richmond Emmaus Community. Kitty was always willing to help others as a volunteer at Reid Health, Arbor Trace, Forest Park and Northeastern Elementary School.
Kitty will be missed by her children, Laurie A. Hayes, Michael D. Sheets and his wife, Rhonda; and Kevin C. Sheets; grandsons, Josh Hayes, Chris Hayes and his wife, Jaclyn; and Nathan Sheets and his wife, Rebecca; step-granddaughters, Jessica Wilmoth and her husband, Danny; and Jennifer Anderson-Wilkie; great-grandchildren, Dakota Hayes and Addyson Hayes; step-great-grandchildren, Daisy Anderson, James Brockman and Dylan Wilmoth; brother, Loren Vance and his wife, Jeanne; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Kitty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, Vicki Sheets; sister, Nancy Moore; great-grandson, Jonathan Leigh; and friend, Jay Banning.
Rev. Jim Truelove will conduct a funeral ceremony at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 20, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday September 19, at the funeral home.
