LaVerne B. Schneider

Mrs. LaVerne B. Schneider, 91, of Fountain City, passed away Monday, April 12 at Rose Gate Village in Richmond.


She was born August 15, 1918 in Wayne County, Indiana to Clarence and Blanche Purtee Clabaugh. She married Arthur J. Schneider on November 26, 1938. They raised 2 children together and shared 61 years together before his death on December 27, 1999.


Mrs. Schneider owned Laverne's Beauty Shop for 25 years. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Church. She was a charter member of the Rodalla Homemakers Club, former member of the Wayne County Home Ec Choir and past president of the Fountain City Mothers Club.


Mrs. Schneider will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ova Johnson, of Richmond; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Kay Schneider, of Westminster, South Carolina; 4 grandsons, 13 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Bill Clabaugh, of Richmond, and several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Schneider was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 sister, Harriett Platt; 3 brothers, Francis Clabaugh, James Clabaugh and Thomas Clabaugh; and 1 nephew, Philip Platt.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 15 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at the funeral home.
