M. Maxine Oler

Mrs. M. Maxine Oler, 91, of Lynn, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Randolph Nursing Home in Winchester.


She was born November 3, 1917 in Arba to Charles M. and Anna E. Porter Beckley. She attended a 1-room school there before moving near Carlos. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1935. She was united in marriage to Richard Oler on December 23, 1939. They shared 39 years together on their farm near Lynn until his death on August 17, 1979. Mrs. Oler was a faithful member of the Bloomingport Friends Church where she served as treasurer, taught Sunday school and was the pianist for many years.


Mrs. Oler will be missed by special caregivers, Dorothy and Curtis Branum, Barbara Bolton, Carolyn Slaven and special cousins including Ron and Darlene Smithson.


Mrs. Oler was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 1 sister, Edith May Van Tyle.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by John Paul Porter and Jonathan Edwards at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Spartanburg Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, at the funeral home.
