Maurice Dudley Hamm, Jr., 81, of Fountain City, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 29.
   Mr. Hamm was born in Dallas, Texas on July 12, 1936 to Maurice, Sr. and Jane Norwood Hamm, both of whom preceded him in death.
   Mr. Hamm was a gifted athlete. He once held the Ohio state record in Cross Country for many decades. He served in the U.S. Navy before attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was a walk-on player on the football team. Mr. Hamm worked for Ford Motor Company and later became an iron worker with Local #290.
   Mr. Hamm was a born-again Christian and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading his Bible daily. He enjoyed raising chickens and race horses, which he used in his harness racing days.
   Mr. Hamm will be missed by his wife of 58 years, the former Helen Jo Riley, who he married on September 25, 1959; four daughters, Joyce Fruth and her husband, John, Sandy Pickett and her husband, Jon; Helen Darr, and Karen Roberts and her husband, Chris; two sons, Dudley Hamm and his wife, Carolyn, and David Hamm and his fiancée, Stacey Puzio; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, with #19 on the way, sister, Shirley Hill, and brother, Glen Hamm.
   Mr. Hamm was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Andy Hamm, in 2007; son-in-law, Larry Darr, on November 16, 2017; and brothers Bruce Hamm, Stanley Hamm, Gene Hamm and Charles Hamm.
   Mr. Hamm’s life will be celebrated by Dr. Martin Holman at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment with military rites will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
   Family and friends may gather from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, at the funeral home.
