Mrs. Mildred Thomas, 99, formerly of Fountain City, passed away on Friday, June 29, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield.
She was born November 5, 1912, in Randolph County to Claude & Edith Clawson DeArmond. She was a 1930 graduate of Fountain City High School earned her teaching certificate from Ball State Teachers College in 1932. She taught primary grades at Fountain City, Boston, Richmond and Whitewater before retiring in 1975.
She married Roger Thomas on May 16, 1941. They were blessed with 2 children and 43 years together before his death in 1984.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of First Christian Church in Richmond, the Indiana State Teachers Association and National Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her daughter, Sarah Jewell, of New Palestine; son, Fred Thomas, of Englewood, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Miriam Caldwell, of Richmond; and several nieces & nephews.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Marjorie Corbett and Frances Kelley; and an infant brother.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 2 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City.
Family & friends may gather from 11:00 am â1:00 pm Monday, July 2 at the funeral home.
