Mr. Rex E. Johnson, 86, passed away on Sunday, November 30, at Reid Hospital.
Born May 28, 1922 in Greens Fork, he was the son of Lewis and Esther Frazer Johnson. He was a cradle member of Williamsburg Friends Meeting and a 1940 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He joined the US Navy in 1942, serving in the Pacific Theatre aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (second) during World War Two. He was a supervisor in the foundry at Perfect Circle, later Dana Corp, retiring with over 30 years of service. Mr. Johnson was a member of Williamsburg Lodge #493 for 55 years and was a life member of the VFW, American Legion and AmVets. When he was younger, he enjoyed making jewelry and fishing.
Mr. Johnson will be missed by his wife, Roberta, whom he married January 3, 1992; 5 daughters, Sandy Weber, Monticello, Kentucky; Cheryl Haynes (Bill), Richmond; Jane Stephens, Indianapolis; Karen Wright (Bob), Williamsburg; Beth Underwood (Rick), Forsyth, Illinois; 2 sons, Stan Johnson (Jacqui), Ovieda, Florida, and Stephen Johnson(Kari Kalve), Richmond; two step-daughters, Sandy Brown and Denise George (Scott), all of Richmond; step-son, Steve Brown (Laura), Richmond; 20 grandchildren, Chris, Eric, and Todd Weber, Lisa Dishman, Curt, Scott, Brent and Matt Haynes, Nicole Samuel, Stephanie Johnson, Anthony and Doug Johnson, Kyle Wright, Amy Wright, Tricia Starr, Brad Stephens, Mandy Barlow, Craig Hersey, Carleigh Johnson and Brookes Baker; 22 great-grandchildren, Jason, Tristan, Britany, Katrina, Brittany, Sean, Chante´, Cheyenne, Scott, Sean, Jacob, Jackson, Katie, Abby, Kaleb, Devon, Stephanie, Kyson, Brandon, Katie, Evan and Carter; 5 step-grandchildren, Ericka Brown, Brett Covert, Brooke Defibaugh, Elizabeth Brown and Caitlin George; 2 step-grandchildren, Donovan and Hunter.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Vivian Johnson, Judith Boyd and Kathryn Williams; 2 brothers, Max Johnson and Robert Johnson.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor Phil Baisley and Rev. Max Knight at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m -2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, at the funeral home.
A Masonic memorial ceremony will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, at the funeral home
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Williamsburg Friends Meeting, Williamsburg Cemetery or the Indiana Masonic Home.
