Richard L. âDickâ Hawkins, 80, of Fountain City, passed away on Tuesday, March 17.
He was born on March 11, 1935 in Richmond to Oscar F. âChickâ and Florence S. Mills Hawkins. He was a 1953 graduate of Centerville High School and later served six years in the Indiana Army National Guard. He married the former Delores âDeeâ Short 59 years ago on November 22, 1956.
Dick retired from Dana Perfect Circle after 31 years of service in the foundry. He formerly served in the Wayne County Sheriffâs Reserve. He was an IHSAA umpire and coached three generations of Little League in Fountain City. He also served 23 years on the Fountain City Town Board. Dick was a history buff and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richmond.
Dick will be missed by his wife, Dee Hawkins; daughters, Kathy Champagne and her husband, Don; and Terry Hawkins-Wiesehan; son, Deron Hawkins and his wife, Dana; grandchildren, Todd Wiesehan, Brendan (Cassie) Finley, Andrew (Angelina) Finley, Caiden Hawkins and Kinley Hawkins; great-grandson, Gavin Finley; sisters, Susy (David) Bond and Helen (Tom) Vickroy; brothers, Sam (Carol) Polver, Elmer (Wanda) Hawkins, Jack (Delores) Hawkins, Ben Hawkins, Joe (Becky) Hawkins and Dave (Shelly) Hawkins; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Rick Wiesehan, in 2014; brothers, Billy Hawkins in 1939 and Donald Hawkins in 2011.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family & friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at the funeral home.
