Ron Ross

Ronald Carl "Ron" Ross, 52, formerly of Fountain City, passed away Thursday, June 10, at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis following a brief illness.


Ron was born October 1, 1957 in Hamilton, Ohio to Clarence E. and Jean M. Hughes Ross. He was a 1976 graduate of Northeastern High School. He was formerly a meat cutter with Cox's, Thornburg's and Ford's supermarkets for 12 years. He later worked as the head of maintenance at Northeastern Elementary School for 13 years. During this time he studied at IU East, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Education in 2008. Licensed in chemistry and physics, he taught 1 year at Union County High School and later was a substitute teacher at Hagerstown High School before illness forced him to take a break. Ron enjoyed farming and working with and showing livestock. He was always engaged in a new project around his house and enjoyed being outdoors.


Ron will be missed by his parents, Clarence and Jean Ross, of Fountain City; fiancee, Amy Fodrea, of Winchester; sons, Chris Ross, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Matt Ross, of Greenfield; his twin brother, Don Ross and his wife, Mary, of Winchester; Dan Ross and his wife, Sherri, of McKinney, Texas; and Rick Ross and his wife, Traci, of Fountain City; 2 grandchildren, Dylan Ross and Carleigh Ross, 2 nieces, 6 nephews and many friends.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 14 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.


Family & friends may gather for visitation from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at the funeral home.


A scholarship is being planned in memory of Ron to benefit a Northeastern High School science student. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
