Ruth Ilene Bufford, 81, of Fountain City, went home to be with her heavenly family on Wednesday, November 7.
Ruth was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on November 5, 1937, to Herman and Letha Allen Abney. She married Ernest Bufford on September 25, 1953. They were blessed with four children and 58 years of marriage before his death on December 22, 2011.
Ruth worshiped at Whosoever Ministries in Fountain City. She was a proud homemaker and enjoyed canning, planning and organizing family meals, storytelling and reading to her grandchildren.
Ruth will be missed by her daughter, Connie Sawyer and her husband, Greg; son, Todd Bufford and his husband, Eddie Mingua, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Carol Bufford; grandchildren, Stephanie Anderson and her husband, Chris, Erni Bufford, Cody Bufford and his fiancée, Katrina Rhodus, Indy Bufford and her fiancé, Tommy Carter; Cain “CJ” Bufford and his companion, Brittany Page; nine great-grandchildren and another expected in December; one great-great-grandchild expected in 2019; sister, Lucille Pippin; brothers, Bill Abney and Amos Abney; and many other friends and relatives.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ernest Bufford, on December 22, 2011; son, Ernie Bufford, on October 2, 2016; son, Terry Bufford, on September 15, 2018; granddaughter, Stacey Leah Mosier, on June 18, 2016; sister, Janice Richey and brother, Herman Abney, Jr.
Family & friends may gather for public visitation from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, at Whosoever Ministries, 207 North Green Street, Fountain City. Ruth’s life will be celebrated by Denver Conway beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by private interment in Willow Grove Cemetery
Ruth would encourage memorial contributions for Genesis of Richmond or the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, due to the fact that she and her family have suffered tragic losses from domestic violence and Alzheimer’s Disease. Envelopes will be available at the church.
