Steve Guard, 51, of Fountain City, passed away Monday, July 8, at his residence.
He was born on November 7, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Jim and Barbara Roberts Guard. Steve graduated from Northeastern High School in 1979. He served in the US Air Force from 1979-85. He then worked at Wayne Corp. in Richmond until 1993 and later with New Paris Oil before becoming an over the road trucker for a few years. Steve was a bus driver for Northeastern Wayne Schools for the past 16 years. He was a former member of the Williamsburg Fire Department and was a past Cub Scout committee chairman. He enjoyed playing flight simulator video games, Woodworking, NASCAR and watching Richmond River Rats baseball.
Steve will be missed by his wife, Kimberly, whom he married on December 31, 1989; sons, Daniel Guard and Benjamin Guard, both at home; father, Rev. Jim Guard; sister, Elizabeth Wernicki; half-sister, Linda Guard-Heigland; nephew, Andrew Wernicki; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rex and Pam Keesling; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. Joshua and Alicia Keesling; and grandmother-in-law, Cleo McClain.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Guard and step-mother, Margaret Guard.
A memorial ceremony will be conducted by Rev. Joshua Keesling at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.
Family & friends may gather for visitation from 11:30 a.m. â 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the funeral home.
