Stuart Jay

    Stuart W. Jay, 89, of Webster, passed away in the comfort of his home on Saturday afternoon, July 15.

    He was born December 30, 1933 on the family farm in Webster, Indiana to Hershel D. & Edna I. Albin Jay. Stuart graduated from Webster High School. He married the former Susan M. Chambers on January 15, 1961. They were blessed with one son and 37 years together before her death on May 15, 1998.

   Stuart was a lifelong farmer in Webster Township, working many years alongside his wife and son. He spent part of last week watching from his house as wheat was being harvested. He formerly served in the Indiana National Guard and was a member of the Centerville Christian Church. He formerly danced with the Hoosier Corners Square Dance Club.

   He will be missed by his son & daughter-in-law, Doug & Susan Jay; grandchildren, Kirsten Freeman, Dylan Jay, Ashley Jay, Brianna Jay; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

   Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Janet Wright, Margaret Corbett and Marilyn Clarke; and brother, Melville Jay.

   A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Webster Cemetery.

   Family & friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the funeral home.
