William "Bill" H. Hartman

William H. “Bill” Hartman, 86, of Richmond, passed away Monday, March 19 at Integra Specialty Hospital in Muncie.
    He was born February 19, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio to Carl and Edna Rich Hartman. He graduated from Whitewater High School in 1943 was a US Army veteran of World War Two. He graduated from Purdue University in 1951. On November 6, 1953 he married the former Barbara J. Snyder, beginning a 58-year marriage that was blessed with 3 children.
   Mr. Hartman farmed several years and later worked as a plant consultant for Kaiser Agricultural Chemical and Farm Bureau CO-OP.
   He was a realtor with Jenkins Real Estate before retirement and formerly served on the Richmond Board of Realtors. He also was one of the first citizens to serve on the Wayne County Plan Commission. He was a faithful member of Centerville Christian Church and was a former member of Whitewater Christian Church, where he had served as an Elder. He was also active in Gideons International.  
   Mr. Hartman will be missed by his wife, Barbara, of Richmond; daughter & son-in-law, Gayle & Doug Claywell, of Richmond; sons & daughters-in-law, Garry & Ruth Hartman, of Richmond and Garth & Cindy Hartman, of Hagerstown; grandsons, Will Claywell and Ben Claywell; sisters, Pauline Riley and Opal Hornbeck, both of Richmond; and several nieces & nephews.
   Mr. Hartman was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters, Geneva Wehrley, Alice Brumbaugh and Florence Beard.
   A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery.
   Family & friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, at the funeral home.
